The client, a small Toronto-based book
publisher, gave as direction "a lot of books" for their thirtieth-anniversary sales
catalogue cover design. The initial roughs, shown below, utilised temporary Web images which were
to be replaced, as shown in the final design, by photographs of the publisher’s own bookshelves,
spliced together in Photoshop.
As well, each comp featured a previously-created anniversary logo, also making its
way into the final product. This had been redesigned by
Taboo (ink) incorporating the company’s original logo at its centre.
Three sets of new interior spreads were created, specially-tailored from the point
of view of publishers’ customers--retail-level book buyers and category managers.
The concept below at second from left was chosen and, after several revisions, resulted in the
final catalogue cover shown above. It was intended that the final cover image would
also be used for other promotions--bookmarks, postcards, a convention booth backdrop--which were subsequently designed.
During the initial stages of this publisher’s sales
catalogue design, it was established that the chosen concept would be used for
other promotional material. The three sets of bookmarks below are derived from
the above cover ideas.
